Full Moon Over The Piscataqua
The Piscataqua River is a 13-mile long tidal estuary, boasting one of the strongest currents in North America. The river’s name is believed to be a combination of the Abenaki words peske and tegwe, which translate to “branch” and “river with a strong current,” respectively. The river creates a natural separation between Maine and New Hampshire, with the official border running down the center of the navigable channel. Bright lights illuminate the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, located on Seavey’s Island in Kittery, ME, near the mouth of the river.
